Working Principle
Centered on four-way shuttle cars as the core equipment, the four-way shuttle racking system achieves cargo storage and retrieval in a 3D space by allowing the shuttle cars to move freely in the horizontal and vertical directions (X/Y axes) of the shelves. Its working process is as follows:
Task Allocation: The Warehouse Management System (WMS) issues instructions to four-way shuttle cars based on cargo storage and retrieval requirements.
Path Planning: In accordance with the instructions, the shuttle cars dynamically calculate the optimal path and avoid obstacles using algorithms such as A* and Dijkstra.
Four-way Travel: Equipped with two sets of orthogonal driving wheels (usually Mecanum wheels or bidirectional driving wheels), the shuttle cars realize forward, backward, left and right movement, and switch directions without steering.
Layer Transfer: The shuttle cars switch between different shelf layers with the help of hoists or lifting devices inside the shelves, completing path planning in a 3D space.
Fork Operation: The on-board telescopic forks can extend horizontally or vertically to pick up or place cargo from and into the storage locations.
Task Completion: The four-way shuttle cars deliver the cargo to the designated position to finish the storage/retrieval task, and feed back status information to the control system.
The four-way shuttle racking system boasts high flexibility, strong scalability and excellent space utilization. It is suitable for the storage of multi-variety, small-batch goods and enables rapid response to operational demands.
