Principle: The stacker crane vertical warehouse uses the stacker crane as the core equipment to achieve automated storage and retrieval of goods through three-dimensional motion (horizontal walking, vertical lifting, fork extension and retraction). The workflow is as follows:

1. Instruction reception: The warehouse management system (WMS) issues access instructions, such as "pick up goods from location A05-12 and deliver them to the shipping port".

2. Path planning: The controller (PLC) of the stacker crane calculates the optimal path based on instructions, and simultaneously starts the horizontal walking motor and vertical lifting motor.

3. Precise positioning: In the horizontal direction, the stacker crane is accurately positioned in front of the target cargo column by using an address recognition device (which identifies the address label of the shelf column) and a rotary encoder (which measures the number of rotations of the walking motor to calculate the distance).

Vertical direction: The lifting motor is controlled by an encoder and an identifier to accurately raise the cargo platform to the height of the target cargo layer. Modern high-end stacker cranes commonly use laser ranging positioning, which does not require physical identification plates, has higher accuracy, and is easier to maintain.

4. Fork operation: After the horizontal and vertical directions are aligned, the fork telescopic mechanism begins to work. When picking up goods, the fork extends and inserts into the slot at the bottom of the pallet, lifts (or directly translates) the pallet, retracts the fork, and retrieves the goods; When it comes to inventory, the process is the opposite.

5. Task completion: The stacker crane carries the goods to the shipping platform or target cargo location, repeats the positioning and fork operation process, unloads the goods, and sends a "task completion" signal to the control system, waiting for the next instruction.
